International Intellectual Property Alliance (IIPA), consisting of US private sector involved in copyright matters, have been listed Thailand in the Priority Watch List (PWL) since they found there is no any advancement as it should be on copyright violations and on ways to amend laws concerning piracy.

The Pharmaceutical Research & Manufacturers Association of America also proposed that Thailand should be placed in the Priority Foreign Country (PFC) list.

On 27 March 2011, Deputy Minister of Commerce, Mr. Alongkorn Ponlaboot stated that he plans to arrange a conference with representatives of local theatres, copyright owners and concerned parties to suppress piracy in Thailand.

Director-general of Department of Intellectual Property, Mrs. Pajchima Thanasanti, revealed that a survey conducted recently by the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has claimed that the copyright violations in Thailand occurred when movies were screened in theaters. The total of 37 foreign movies experienced copyright violation which is up from 25 movies in 2009. This number of violation is the most in this region.

She stated that the Violations on Recording Movie in Theatre Act has been drafted by the Ministry of Commerce to punish violators of copyright infringement and the draft is being considered by Council of State Office.

Another problem is that individuals, claiming to be representatives of some leader intellectual property owner, went around to threaten traders of violating intellectual property products and demanded money from them. Therefore, to control this malpractice, Mrs. Pajchima Thanasanti also stated that her department planned to issue a new order in which local authorized representatives of intellectual property owner would be issued their special cards that could facilitate them to control and arrest the violators.
