BOI Thailand urgently supports Japanese businesses impacted from the earthquake and tsunami after the regrettable earthquake and tsunami in Japan last month. Board of Investment (BOI) Thailand has been planning to help Japanese businesses to relocate to Thailand.
 
The Ministry of Industry called for the meeting with a sub-committee to work out measures to support Japanese businesses by providing privileges and supporting in special cases to Japanese business who might want to relocate their production bases to Thailand. The resolutions of the meeting shall be sent directly to the Council of Economic Ministries chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva, without the need to go to the BOI board.

Mr.Chaiwut Bannawat, the Minister of Industry stated that BOI is ready to support Japanese businesses who are interested in Thailand investment and even who are investing in Thailand since number of Japanese investors are considered as the exclusive and the biggest amount in Thailand. Furthermore, BOI shall hasten to operate the measures in part of import and consideration of work permit for the experts.

He added that Projects which applied for BOI promotion shall be considered hastily and the impacted projects shall be extended the period of obtained privileges as well as the time they are impacted from the earthquake and tsunami. Meanwhile, Thai investments in Japan shall be promoted and obtained the same privileges as Tokyo and Osaka show very little impact.

Mrs.Autchaka Siboonrueng, Secretary-General of Board of Investment Committee also said that in this April, BOI shall confer with Japanese investors to conclude all impacts of the earthquake and tsunami and to anticipate the Thailand investment direction since the previous discussion could not make clear such impacts and investment direction.
